Durban star performer, Cape Town lagging?

10-04-2007

Collectively, nominal grade-A office rentals in Durban’s decentralised office locations were up by 20% during the final quarter of 2006, while Cape Town decentralised managed only a pedestrian 5%.

This does not mean that Cape Town is in the doldrums though. In fact, in terms of rental levels, Cape Town is second only to Durban. The accompanying graph shows that decentralised office rentals in the Mother City were notably higher than those of the rest of the country during the 1998 to 2002 period, after which it plummeted — or, perhaps, corrected — as a result of overdevelopment in the late 1990s.
